Ensi vuoden Eurovision laulukilpailun päivämäärä on selvinnyt. Moskovassa järjestettävä laulukilpailun finaali on tarkoitus pitää lauantaina 16. toukokuuta.

Asiasta ilmoitti Moskovan pormestari Juri Luzhkov. Finaalin näyttämönä toimii Moskovan olympiastadion.

Kilpailun avajaiset puolestaan pidetään 9. toukokuuta, jota Venäjällä vietetään myös voitonpäivänä Neuvostoliiton natsi-Saksasta saaman voiton muistoksi.

Voitonpäivän muistelu on aiemmin herättänyt kiistoja Venäjän ja entisen Neuvostoliiton maiden välillä.

Siksi Eurovision avajaispäivä saattaa tuoda myös poliittista sävyä aiemmin täysin epäpoliittisina pidettyihin laulukilpailuihin

The 54th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Olimpiyskiy (Olympic) Stadium, Moscow in 2009.

The Grand Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex (Большая спортивная арена Олимпийского комплекса Лужники) in Moscow, or briefly Luzhniki Stadium (Стадион "Лужники")

Lužniki (ven. Лужники) on Lužnikin alueella Moskovassa Venäjällä sijaitseva yleisurheilu- ja jalkapallostadion. Lužnikin nimi oli aiemmin Tsentralnyi stadion imeni V. I. Lenina (ven. Центральный стадион имени В. И. Ленина), vapaasti suomennettuna Leninin keskusstadion.

Olympic Stadium, known locally as the Olimpiysky, is a large indoor arena located in Moscow, Russia. It was built for the 1980 Summer Olympics and hosted the basketball and boxing events. A part of the Olimpiisky Sports Complex, it makes up one architectural ensemble with another venue, constructed at the same time, the Swimming Pool. The venue is so large that up to 80,000 people can occupy its space.

The Olympic Stadium will be the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009.

"This decision causes storm of outrage not only among veterans of the Great Patriotic War, but for all sane people. I think this is an act of cynicism and open disregard for the history of our country", - said one of members of Parliament.

The authorities in Moscow did not impose any restrictions for "sex minorities", who will be able to travel freely to the Russian capital in 2009 for the Eurovision, but will not allowed to to organize their public activities, said Yuriy Luzhkov. "We have a law that passed in 1993. According to it, we do not prosecute sexual minorities, they have freedom. However, public demonstrations are unacceptable. When it comes to the inclinations of sexual minorities, then do whatever you like, but do not attract young people to participate in gay parades", - said the mayor. He said that in Moscow members of sexual minorities have never been and never will be prosecuted.
