With just over a year to go, and plans for Eurovision 2008 are already getting underway. As regards a possible venue, and a lot of the talk is centring on the huge, modern Belgrade Arena with a potential capacity of 23,000 which could make Eurovision 2008 one of the biggest ever (although as with most years, the seating area would most likely be reduced somewhat to make way for the staging). It’s reported that state broadcaster RTS’s director Alexandar Tijanic is keen for financial assistance, especially as the Serbian TV signal is not yet to High Definition standards, something that the EBU is keen to address. One other issue still to be resolved is the lack of hotel rooms for delegates – under EBU rules there needs to be a set number of four and five star rooms near to the venue, although the planned opening of a five-star hotel by the Holiday Inn in September should go someway to resolving this.
