Are you guys excited yet?
I like all songs this time except Mitä Vaan, but I'm quite sure Tommi will go through anyway since a lot of Finns like this kind of music.
My top would be:
1. Kiss Me
2. An Actress
3. Unconditional Love
4. Your Lasting One
5. You're A Star
6. Mitä Vaan
But I think these will go through: 1. Mitä vaan 2. Kiss Me 3. Unconditional love.

Very excited!!! Mua jännittää hirveästi, or as Sonja Biskop put it last year, "jännä mun hirveä!" Which is gibberish and, directly translated, means something like "my moose is exciting"
I'm trying to prepare for the obvious, and try not to be too disappointed if Elena or Gary won't make it to Tampere. Of course I'm hoping but it's not very likely to happen. Or maybe Gary will, which would be nice, but I wouldn't be too sure about Elena.
I know some people like Teddy vs. MC Criss, but to me it's an unbelievable piece of euro-reggae cr*p from the mid-nineties. And I don't want to offend anyone's personal taste by saying that, it's just my opinion.
My wish list:
1.Elena
2. Gary
3. Jennie
-----------
4. Linda
5. Tommi
6. Teddy & MC Criss
My fear list (=my guess):
1.Teddy & MC Criss
2. Tommi
3. Jennie

KrisB, I'll promise to vote Elena since you asked so nicely for it in this week's Diggilej
Well, to be honest, I would probably vote it anyway - it's the best song of these six!

I'm sure your fearlist is the correct one Marjukka, I'm afraid...but the porn-hype may lift Gary thru to the final - you never know...! It really is going to be an exciting evening...Elena's performance might turn out to be the most crucial - I don't much like it as it is now...but the live performance will be decisive. It's either a big success or a total flop...! I'm rooting for Jennie...GO JENNIE GO...! smilie_daumenpos:

According to Hufvudstadsbladet today, Jennie loves Eurovision since forever and will wear golden shoes in a hommage to a former winner...
I still think Tommi, Jennie and Teddy will make the final 3, but if anyone else does, I hope they kick Tommi and nobody else out.
Still angry with Yle for placing all good songs in the same semi...

Last night's result was good but not great. Elena Mady was my absolute favourite and Teddy vs. MC Chriss was the runner-up on my list but Jennie?? I wouldn't have even put her through to the final. I don't mind that she qualified but that she WON and is hyped here... oh dear, oh dear. If we choose her to represent us, we're only repeating all our previous mistakes. I just typed the mistakes we're repeating on the Doteurovision MB but I'll copy them here to - possibly - create some discussion (hmm.. I wonder should I translate them to Finnish as well to create even more discussion.. hmm..).
The mistakes are:
The mistakes are:
- choosing a complex and unstructured song that doesn't work on one listening (ATY and T2TT again...)
- ignoring the lack of performance, charisma and stage presence (you don't need examples, do you?)
- in general, making a "safe" choice in a genre typical to ESC that "should" bring a good result home instead of taking some risks. Mind you, the latest winners and runners-up mainly have NOT been safe choices whereas many of the flops have been! (Choosing Åström instead of Nightwish is the most recent example here)
- underestimating the viewing and voting audience as if they were a bunch of calculators or as if this was a figure skating contest where there has to be certain elements which bring a certain number of points... N-O! ESC is nothing like that but I've lost all my hope that Finland would ever learn that.[/list:u]
Jos et pärjää tietokoneellesi shakissa, kokeile potkunyrkkeilyä.
Jennie
I beg to differ in opinion... I don't see in which way "Kiss me" would be too complicated, I think it is one of the most direct entries this year.
Also, Jennie was slightly nervous and tense now, but that will be fixed in Tampere, where the singers don't have a 14-hour day before performing on live television.
I say she is the best way to keep Finland proud in the ESC - quality (almost) always works (except in Tallinn 2002).
But also Elena, I'dees and Teddy could be good, but riskier, choices. Any of them will be fine by me... And there is still Firevision...
s_a_v:
But could somebody send a copy of the Russian final to Yle for consideration? Out of ten songs, nine were good, and all ten really well performed... Russia 12 points!!! Russia rocks!

I don't think so, TobSon. At least his song does nothing to me. Too bland and ordinary to have any chance of success IMHO.

Re: Jennie
Jennie is a true pro. She has actually been on antibiotics for the past month with a throat infection. Added to that, she has been performing the super-demanding lead role of "Kim" in Miss Saigon for the past year. (They just reached 100 performances 2 nights before the Turku semi.) She still sang the lead in SAIGON and gave her all even though she was a bit sick and still had to perform at the semis.TobSon kirjoitti:Also, Jennie was slightly nervous and tense now, but that will be fixed in Tampere, where the singers don't have a 14-hour day before performing on live television.
Also, the day of the semi finals, the artists are put through a lot. They must perform the song at least 5 times during the day for lighting/sound/taping, etc. Even so, during the day I thought her voice was much stronger and powerful than even her studio version. There must have been some problems with the mix in the live show because her voice didnt come across half as strong as any of the other practice runs. :?:
So, I dont have any fear of nerves if Jennie is chosen to represent Finland. Singing a 3 minute pop song is nothing like having to command a stage as the lead for 2.5 hours. Jennie is just as adorable and open off stage as she is on. She could easily be Finland's Kylie Minogue (only prettier and a better singer in my opinion.)
I don't know if her song will win, but she deserves all the good that comes to her.
I also thought Elena Mady was a true lady. Humble, gracious, and just thankful to be able to perform such a touching and beautiful song. Wonderful person (with flawless English) who would be a great ambassador for Finland if her song is chosen. I personally dont want the song disqualified. As a songwriter, I admire those who take risks and dare to do the unconventional to push the boundries. I think this entry more than anything else sets the bar for next year's competition that the Finnish voting public is willing to embrace songs that move them even if they are not traditional.
I think Turku had some outstanding songs. Of course, I am disappointed that Gary's song didnt go to the next level, but I think he and his team did an amazing show and sang the pants off the song. (Pun intended. ) But thats the way it goes. Maybe we'll see some club remixes of the songs on the Finland iTunes store sometime in the future. )
But above all...congrats to the finalists! And on to Imatra for the next round!

Re: Jennie
Gary had really bad luck. I am convinced that any of the six songs in Turku would have gone through, had they been placed in the Jyväskylä semi instead. One wonders if Yle listened to the songs at all before placing them in the semis...sampo kirjoitti:Of course, I am disappointed that Gary's song didnt go to the next level, but I think he and his team did an amazing show and sang the pants off the song. Comments on this week's songs
A tough one to choose a winner this week, after last week's extravaganza.
MOR city, with all the songs at a fairly equal level. None really terrible, none that good either.
I'll need to listen several times, I think, to get any favourites out of this lot.
My faves for the final remain the same then. I'Dees, Elena or Teddy. One of those 3 should win the Finnish title this year, and take Finland through to the final. Anything else probably means Semifinals 2006.

I think you're quite right, Kris. Those three acts are also the ones I find most likely to succeed. No way we could do that by sending in D'voices, for example.
Lotossa saa toiset ja toiset taas ei, heissan heissan heissulivei!

Sending D'Voices would only bring us ridicule (but not quite as much as would Christian Forss).
But I still won't give up on Jennie. I am sure she would do well in Kiev. Go, girl!
